While health had always been a priority, I grew up to believe like the most of you that an adequate amount of exercise along with home cooked meals can do the trick. And I did pay attention to this mantra most of the time and despite that i kept feeling not so good enough. Like your body is giving you the signals and screaming from inside to save itself. When this feeling of CRAP seemed like it was never going to end I decided I had to do something about it.
A few tests and symptoms down the line I discovered I had something which the world terms as an auto-immune disorder. An autoimmune disorder is when you own wbc’s attack your own body considering them as a foreign element. Basically they try to protect your body from ‘YOU’ and in the process do you more harm.
I started as any one of us would with a conventional doctor who put me on a set of medicines which only made me feel worse. Thereafter I tried various disciplines including ayurveda, homeopathy and acupuncture but there just seemed to be no cure. It did not take me long to realise that conventional medicine has no answer for autoimmunity. A basic internet research meanwhile revealed a whole new way to treat this – in one simple way – by changing the food you eat. It sounded too simple and hence, I dug deeper and read a few books and started following a few recognised practitioners and saw a few Netflix documentaries. And thus began my journey of change…
I started experimenting with food with the elimination diet removing gluten, dairy and sugar at first. While it was a bit difficult at first I kept at it, digging deeper. I realised the importance of probiotics and how eating the right / good fats can actually help you loose weight contrary to the popular belief.
And while I was at it – I realised I had started feeling better, more energetic and not so jailed after all. I slowly realised that for every glutenized food item out there in the market, there is a gluten free and equally and probably more delicious substitute (which can be either bought or made at home from whole foods)… All you need is a good set of eyes to look for ingredients, choose them carefully and plan your meals.
